Nature Futures empowers higher education to tackle climate challenges through nature-based solutions and citizen science
Climate change and biodiversity loss demand urgent responses, yet higher education has been slow to integrate nature-based solutions into teaching and learning. Most universities still treat sustainability as an add-on rather than a core part of how students are educated.
NATURE-FUTURES brings together four European institutions to change that by developing practical tools, training, and strategies that help universities play an active role in building a more sustainable future.
Project Objectives
Map and Develop
We identify and document real-world nature-based solution cases relevant to higher education, building a framework that universities can use to integrate them into their curricula.
Model System Complexity
Develop a dynamic system model that helps educators and students visualise and navigate the complexity of climate challenges.
Guide Institutions
Provide university leaders with strategic roadmaps for scaling up NbS and citizen science as part of long-term sustainability strategies.
Train and Equip
Deliver an online training course and open educational resources that build practical competencies in systemic thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and citizen science.
